William & Mary Antiques & Reproductions

Naturally surviving antiques of earlier periods such as the William and Mary are rare. It is surprising that there is as much of it as there is. If we were to look up such plans or illustrations as exist of American cities even as late as 1725, we would realise what comparatively small towns they were and how few would be the houses likely to contain furniture of the better grade. Twenty five years later still, in 1750, the population of Philadelphia, then the largest "city" on the continent, was only 12,500!

Fortunately there exist stores and makers of reproductions such as James Dew and Charles Bender.
