Antique Four Poster Beds
First in our tour of the history and tradition of American antique four poster and other beds is a look at how the early colonists made their sleeping arrangments, from limited resources, in early colonial beds. It is evident that concerns of comfort soon loomed as in the early popularity of chaise lounges while in the country beds of the time we note how most ordinary people managed.

In later periods, as the colonies progressed, English fashions held sway as we see in Chippendale beds, tent beds, and Phyfe beds, while later still French influences become predominant as in Empire beds and antique sleigh beds.
