Antique Tallboys

Antique tallboys furniture.

The tallboy which is one of the most useful articles ever designed is really a commodious development of the chest of drawers. It is simple in its design, and two chests of drawers placed one on top of the other may have been its origin : it is occasionally spoken of as a "double chest", a self-explanatory term. (The earliest form of tallboys consisted of one big drawer below, and a set of drawers above them). Antique tallboys offer many desirable advantages for a small bedroom, for they only require the same amount of floor space as ordinary chests, and yet provide twice the accommodation. Later the tallboy was made in mahogany, and in the eighteenth century its proportions were amplified.
