Italian Furniture

The Italian furniture tradition occupies a special place in the overall history of furniture with Italy being the birthplace of the classical Renaissance and the Italian Renaissance furniture that came from it had an immeasurable effect on world furniture, with its echoes of the classical empires of antiquity, Rome and Greece, the foundation stones of the western furniture tradition.

While much of the furniture industry in modern day Europe has declined into obscurity or narrow experimentalism the modern Italian furniture industry remains comparatively robust and capable of producing marketable, popular, yet still stylish, furniture for contemporary homes.

Most countries in Europe have a "country" or rustic furniture tradition and in Italy we find it best expressed in Tuscan furniture.
