Furniture Pattern Books, Drawings & Sketches
The first major English furniture patterns and sketches books were published in the early to mid 18th century, the Georgian period. Not the first, but the most complete and influential was The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director, a series of measured drawings and sketches of wooden chairs, sofas, etc.
At least as long lasting as Chippendale's work and probably of somewhat higher quality was the Hepplewhite "The cabinet-maker and upholsterer's guide".
