A first edition of the Pergolesi Designs of Vases, etc.

First edition of A Great Variety of Original Designs of Vases, Figures, Medallions, Friezes, Pilasters, Pannels and other Ornaments, in the Etruscan and Grotesque Style; Executed in the Most Finished Manner] by Michel Angelo Pergolesi. See here.

Pergolesi published his book of ornamental designs for household objects of art after having studied in Rome. This folio edition was published between 1777 and 1785 and the designs found therein were intended to be used as patterns for the works of Robert Adam and his neoclassical style of furniture design.

The major parts of this first edition of Pergolesi’s work consist of neoclassical designs for most types of traditional ornament including ceilings, doors, wall panels, silverware, furniture, urns and vases, marquetry, and more, interspersed with arabesques and grotesques.
