Exhibition of Chinese imperial thrones.
While the Chinese furniture section of this site is still under development, we note the Asian Art museum’s page on Chinese imperial thrones. The museum is located in San Francisco.

Imperial Throne, China, Qing dynasty, Mid or late 1800’s.
On the second floor of the Chong-Moon Lee Art Center.
It is noted that thrones were the principal items of furniture in aristocratic homes in imperial times Peking. Usually made of lacquered wood such thrones were obviously larger than normal chairs and were of a far more decorative and elaborate design.
The thrones were decorated with “lucky” symbols such as dragons, which represent long life, as well as depictions of flowers. The throne pictured was probably meant for one of the lower members of the royal family.
